Becoming a Plant Parent Guidebook

The goal for this project was to create a functional digital app prototype that reflects the topic of the guidebook we created. The app prototype could be designed using either Figma or Adobe XD and each digital wireframe should respond as a fully built app would. Typography, imagery, layout, and wireframe flow should all be carefully considered.

Moodboard

The first stage of this project was to brainstorm what kind of guidebook to make based on my personal hobbies. I made a well-considered moodboard sourcing imagery, exploring type options, considering layout, and developing icons for three different topics I was interested in. I was most inspired by the final result of the guide to indoor house plants moodboard, so I chose to pursue my project in this direction.

Process Stages

After selecting my topic, I began to more clearly define who my target audience is, along with the imagery I wanted to include and the most effective layout for the book spreads. Once I had a solid foundation of purpose, content, and layout, I was ready to assemble the spreads in Adobe InDesign.

Spreads

Here are a few spreads I felt were particularly successful. I enjoyed the challenge of creating the map and corresponding icons as well as discovering unique ways to lay out imagery and information. I feel I navigated these design challenges well, and I love the way the book came together as a unified and cohesive project.
